How to read this comparison

Compare each reset against doing nothing, using the same demand and time window. Dots mark quota refills, not completed work. Hollow dots at or after the end of the window do not count toward the result.

Both paths replace the unused balance with 100 units now; they do not add 100 on top. The unused balance is already included in the no-reset path, so it must not be subtracted from the final gain a second time. Restarting replaces the old schedule; keeping the date preserves it. A sooner refill can help, but its value still depends on when you need the quota.

*The keep-date path is a model assumption for the Claude scenario. The Codex paid-reset scenario assumes your first request happens immediately. Check the provider rules.

This calculator compares two explicit mechanisms. It does not claim every Codex or Claude reset follows one permanent rule.

These limited product facts are backed by official documentation. The account, offer and date still matter.

The cards illustrate two reset scenarios at equal weekly capacity. The Codex scenario models a paid instant reset with your first request made immediately; its new weekly period starts with that first request. The Claude scenario assumes an extra reset preserves the old refill date. That assumption is not established for every Claude reset by the regular Max-plan documentation. Check the terms of your account or offer.

How much quota
do you actually gain?

Suppose your quota is 100 units and only 10 remain. A reset replaces those 10 with a fresh 100: 10 unused units are lost, and the balance rises by 90. But “restored now” and “extra demand served” answer different questions.

These answers belong to this 48-hour plan. Change the demand, the original refill time or the observation window, and the outcome can change. In a longer plan, a later refill may align with a new demand peak.

A net total is not the complete value of your work. Deadlines, short-window caps, delayed tasks and model capabilities can all matter. Use this tool to understand the calendar effect, not as a promise about your account.

Does +20% mean 20% more productivity?

No. It means extra served demand equal to 20% of one normalized weekly quota. It is not a measure of productivity, quality, task success or relative improvement over the no-reset total.

Can the result be negative?

In the restart mechanism, yes. Moving a near-term refill can reduce the demand served inside the selected window. The calculator keeps that negative result visible.

What happens to my unused quota?

Enter it in “Unused.” Both modeled resets replace that balance with a fresh 100%; they do not stack a new allowance on top. For example, 80% unused is replaced by 100%, so the immediate balance increase is only 20%. That replacement is already reflected in the net comparison; subtracting the unused balance again would double-count it. If the scheduled refill is due now, the model applies it first, then the reset. Check whether these replacement rules match your account.

Why not count unused quota as value?

A balance may help later, but it is not demand already served during this window. Ending balances are shown separately in the detailed comparison.

Are these live account numbers?

No. These are examples or values you enter. This page does not connect to your account, redeem resets or change your plan. When you share, we save the selected inputs and calculated result to create a replay link. Anyone with that link can view it. Otherwise, reloading restores the default example.

Does a reset change my total quota before subscription expiry?

Enter the end of your current subscription in local time. We compare from a fixed start until that exact time, excluding refills at or after expiry and prorating demand in the last partial day. No renewal is assumed. Quota on paper counts the starting balance and scheduled full refills; actual extra use also accounts for timing, demand and unused quota lost. Both are measured in units of one weekly quota, not money. Shared links preserve the original timestamps.

What does the model leave out?

Five-hour limits, model-specific restrictions, real task duration, priorities, changing capacity, future promotions and delayed-work queues are outside this model. Each entered day's demand is evenly distributed over its 24-hour block.

Is this a Codex-versus-Claude comparison?

The brand cards illustrate reset mechanisms at equal normalized capacity, not capabilities or plan allowances. Codex models a paid reset with immediate first use; Claude models an assumed keep-date reset. Actual reset terms depend on your account or offer.
